Mobile Auto Electrical Repair in Riyadh
Charging, starting, wiring and drain faults found by measurement at your car, anywhere in Riyadh. We test the circuit before anyone buys a part.
Electrical faults are where cars get expensive for the wrong reason. The parts-swapping approach replaces the battery, then the alternator, then the starter, and the fault is still there because it was a corroded earth strap the whole time. We come to your car anywhere in Riyadh with a multimeter, a clamp ammeter, a power probe and a scan tool, and we prove where the fault is before anything gets bought. Testing takes longer than guessing on the first visit and costs far less by the third.
The work covers charging and starting, meaning the alternator (دينمو) and the starter (سلف), plus fuses, relays, harness and earth faults, parasitic drain that flattens a battery overnight, lights, power windows, central locking, and immobiliser or key faults that leave a car cranking but never firing. Most of it is done where the car sits. Where a repair needs the dashboard out or the harness on a bench, we tell you that before you have spent anything with us.
What an auto electrician actually tests
A car electrical system does three jobs: store energy, generate it, and distribute it. The battery stores, the alternator generates and regulates, and a web of fuses, relays, modules and earth points distributes. Fault-finding means proving each stage with numbers. Resting voltage and a load test show the true state of the battery. Charging voltage and diode ripple measured at the alternator with headlights and blower running show whether it is regulating or breaking down under load. Voltage drop across cables and earth points shows exactly where hidden resistance is eating your current.
Modern cars add data to that picture. Modules talk to each other over CAN and LIN networks, and one chafed wire can take down a whole bus, filling the dashboard with faults that look unrelated to each other. So we scan every module, not just the engine, and read communication and network codes alongside component codes. On a drain complaint we clamp the battery lead and watch current fall as the car goes to sleep, then isolate circuits one at a time until the consumer that refuses to shut down has a name.
Signs of an electrical fault
- The car is dead in the morning after running perfectly all day
- Battery warning light stays on, or headlights dim and brighten with engine speed
- One loud click, or silence, when you turn the key, then it starts on the second try
- Interior lights, dashboard or radio flicker or reset while you are driving
- Several unrelated warning lights come on together for no obvious reason
- One window, mirror or door lock has stopped working while the rest are fine
- A burning plastic smell, or a fuse that blows again as soon as you replace it
- The engine cranks normally but never fires, with the key or immobiliser symbol lit
What the on-site visit covers
- Battery state of charge and state of health tested under load, plus terminal and clamp condition
- Alternator output and regulation measured at idle and at speed with electrical load applied, including diode ripple
- Starter circuit tested end to end: feed, solenoid trigger, earth path and voltage drop while cranking
- Full multi-module scan including network and communication codes, not just engine faults
- Parasitic drain measured with a clamp meter, then circuit isolation until the offending consumer is identified
- Voltage-drop testing on main cables and earth points, especially engine and body earth straps
- Hands-on inspection of harness runs for heat damage, chafing, rodent damage and corroded connectors
- On-site repairs: fuses, relays, terminals, earth straps, soldered and sealed joints, alternator or starter replacement where access allows
- Everything retested afterwards with the original fault reproduced and cleared, not just the warning light reset
What Riyadh heat and dust do to wiring
Under-bonnet temperatures through a Riyadh summer sit well above what wiring insulation is designed to tolerate year after year. Insulation goes hard, then brittle, then splits at every flex point, which is precisely where a harness passes over an edge or bends near the alternator and starter. Once the insulation opens, copper corrodes and resistance climbs. The result is rarely a clean failure. It is an intermittent one that appears at two in the afternoon in traffic and vanishes in the cool of the evening, and those are the faults that get misdiagnosed most often.
Dust is the other half of it. Fine Riyadh sand works into connectors, mixes with moisture from a wash or an early morning dew, and leaves a slightly conductive, slightly corrosive film on pins that were never meant to be dirty. Add local parking habits, cars standing under a villa carport for weeks during travel and engine bays that make warm nesting places for rodents, and you get chewed insulation and drain faults with no obvious cause. On any intermittent electrical complaint we inspect physical harness condition early, because that is usually where the answer is hiding.
Transparent pricing — agreed before we start
Electrical work is quoted in two steps, because that is the honest way to do it. First the diagnostic visit: you agree that figure before the technician starts, and it is fixed for the visit rather than an open meter that runs while we think. Once we know what the fault actually is, we quote the repair as one number covering parts and labour, before anything is bought or dismantled. If a second fault is sitting behind the first, we stop and re-quote rather than absorbing it silently.
Then that quote holds. When the fault is proven fixed, meaning the drain is gone, charging voltage is correct, the window works, or the car starts hot and cold, the bill reads exactly what you approved — cash, card or bank transfer. If a part has to be sourced, or the job turns out to need the dash out, you hear that before you are committed to spending. Diagnosis first, parts second, never the other way round, and never a new alternator sold to cure a bad earth.

Electrical Repair — questions we get
That is exactly what a drain test answers. We load-test the battery first, then clamp the negative lead and watch current draw as the car goes to sleep, which can take up to an hour on some models. Normal sleep draw is small and steady. If yours stays high, we isolate circuits until the module or accessory that will not shut down is identified by name.
Yes. Villa driveways, compound parking bays and basement levels are where most of our work happens, and none of it needs a workshop. We bring our own lighting and power, so a dark basement is no obstacle, and shade actually helps because we can take our time on a drain test. Only harness jobs that need the dashboard removed get moved to a workshop.
Around 10 minutes to most Riyadh addresses, day or night, 24 hours a day including Fridays, Ramadan and Eid. Send your location on WhatsApp with a short description: does it crank, do the dash lights come on, is anything clicking. That lets the technician load the right test gear and likely parts before setting off instead of making a second trip for them.
On most cars, yes. Both are roadside jobs when access is reasonable, and we carry the tools for belt removal and refitting. On some engines the alternator sits low behind the subframe or the starter is buried under the intake, which means several hours and a lift. We check access before quoting so you are not told half way through that the car has to be moved.
It is worth measuring before you buy. A slipping or glazed belt, a stretched tensioner, a corroded main output cable or a poor earth all produce the same low-charging symptom as a failing alternator. We measure output at the alternator and again at the battery. If those two numbers differ, the alternator is fine and the cable or connection is the fault, which is a far cheaper fix.
Usually yes. Most window failures are the regulator, the motor, the switch or a broken wire in the rubber concertina between the door and the body, and all of those are door-card-off jobs we do at your location. Central locking faults are often a tired door actuator or the same broken wire. We test the switch signal and the motor feed before removing anything.
It can be. Cranking proves the battery and starter are working, so the missing element is spark, fuel or permission from the immobiliser. We check for spark and injector signal, read the crank and cam sensor data live, and look at whether the immobiliser has recognised the key. That splits an electrical fault from a fuel or mechanical one within the first part of the visit.
We repair wiring. A chafed section is cut back to clean copper, joined with a soldered or crimped connection, sealed with heat-shrink and then supported so it cannot rub in the same place again. Corroded earth points are cleaned back to bare metal and protected. Replacing a whole loom for one damaged wire is rarely justified and rarely what the customer actually needs.
